Todd's Biography

JUST THE FACTS:

Todd Phillips is the teaching pastor of Frontline, a generational church-within-a-church at McLean Bible Church near Washington D.C. with over three thousand young adults attending at four campuses.  Frontline has been called the “first mega-church within a mega-church in the country.”

Todd’s primary passion is reaching ‘pre-Christians’ with the life saving message of Jesus Christ.  He reflects that passion in his new book, “Spiritual CPR: Reviving a Flat-lined Generation,” which is available in book stores everywhere. Before his arrival at Frontline, Todd served as pastor for three generationally targeted evangelistic ministries in Texas: Austin Metro, San Antonio Metro, and The Soul Café in Kerrville.  These three ministries combined reached over twenty thousand young adults with the Gospel.  He is now focused on reaching young adults in the nation’s capital, believing passionately that if the church can change young adults in D.C. with the Gospel, we can change the world.

In his latest effort to empower young adults to change the world in the name of Christ, he has written a study titled, “Get Uncomfortable: Serve the Poor.  Stop Injustice.  Change the World…In Jesus’ Name.”  In addition to being available to speak on this topic on radio and television, he is available to speak at events about this and many other relevant topics form a biblical perspective.  Todd holds a BBA with honors from Concordia University, a Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Languages with honors from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Ministry at Dallas Theological Seminary.  He and his wife Julie live in Sterling, Virginia with their three children: Parker (7), Katherine (5), and Raney Grace (4).

THE LONG VERSION:

In December of 1993 Todd was living in Denver, Colorado when he came to the ‘end of himself.' He reached out to a Christian friend in Austin, Texas and for the next month this friend worked with him nightly reading scripture, talking, and praying. After a real ‘mountain top’ experience with God, Todd become a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He packed up a few things leaving a business, girlfriend, car, and a home to come to Austin.

Once in Austin, Todd immediately became involved in a Bible study. He was baptized on February 6, 1994. About six months later he surrendered to full time ministry. He got a job at Dell Computer Company and decided to finish his education. In May of 1995, Todd graduated from Concordia University with a BA in Business Administration. Then, in November of 1995, he quit his job at Dell to follow a step of faith in full time evangelistic work.

Todd has always been actively involved in pursuing people for the kingdom of God. He led a Bible study with five other young men and from these small beginnings Austin Metro was formed. Austin Metro was a citywide singles ministry created to reach out to those in Austin, Texas and the surrounding area who did not have a relationship with God as well as those who had turned away from God and needed a first step back into the church. Austin Metro celebrated it's four-year anniversary in June, 1999 by commissioning over one thousand attendees to go to their local churches and start new ministries to their age group.  In the next few years five new ministries and churches started in the Austin area specifically to reach young singles in Austin.

In January of 1997, Todd helped start and was asked to be the speaker of San Antonio Metro. SA Metro grew into the largest weekly event of its kind in San Antonio reaching over 1500 singles at it's largest gathering.

In the fall of 1998, a small group of devoted attendees of San Antonio Metro who drove each week from the small town of Kerrville approached Todd to help start an event in their town to reach un-churched young people.  Now, four years later, Todd is the teaching pastor of a church called The Soul Cafe in Kerrville reaching over 400 people weekly in a town of less than 40,000.

Todd also speaks at retreats, events, and churches to people of all ages. He continually shows God’s light to non-believers while inspiring Christians to ‘get out of their box’ and remember their calling (Matthew 28:18-20).

Todd, his wife Julie, and their three children: Parker (6), Katherine (4), and Raney Grace (2), moved to McLean, Virginia in the summer of 2004 to serve at Frontline Church.  Less than two months after arriving in Virginia the pastor of Frontline accepted a position as pastor of a church in Orange County, California and Todd was asked to become the new pastor of Frontline.  Todd accepted the challenge and has been leading Frontline since January, 2005.

Todd completed a Master’s degree in Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2000. He will complete his doctoral work at Dallas Theological Seminary in the Spring of 2009.

In 2004, Todd finished writing his first book, Spiritual CPR: Reviving a Flat-lined Generation, published by David C. Cook.  His latest book, released in April 2007, is a six-week Bible Study titled, "Get Uncomfortable: Serve the Poor. Stop Injustice. Change the World...In Jesus' Name."
